Write for Target Center Renovation
This site followed the renovation of Target Center in downtown Minneapolis from the 2015 announcement through construction, the new scoreboard, the reworked concourses and concessions, and the arena's reopening. It is now a record of how a busy, municipally owned venue was rebuilt while it kept hosting games and concerts, and a home for new writing on venue renovation and sports facility construction. Our readers are facility managers, architects, contractors, city officials, team staff and fans who care about how these buildings get made. If you write well for that audience, this write for us page explains what we publish and how to submit an article.
What we publish
We are looking for informed, practical articles on:
- Arena, stadium and venue renovation: phasing work around a live event calendar
- Sports facility design and construction, from seating bowls and scoreboards to back-of-house
- Funding and public-private deals for municipally owned venues
- Fan experience: concourses, concessions, premium spaces and technology
- Construction project management, contractors, materials and scheduling on large renovations
- Downtown Minneapolis development and the wider Twin Cities construction market
Case studies from real projects, with numbers and lessons learned, do best. We are less interested in generic overviews.
Guest posts and sponsored articles
We accept two kinds of contribution. A guest post is contributed editorial from an architect, contractor, facility operator, consultant or journalist with first-hand knowledge. A sponsored post is a paid placement from a business that wants to reach our readers, such as a construction firm, a seating or scoreboard supplier, an architecture practice, a hospitality operator or a technology vendor. Both are published on the same terms: the article is permanent, it is indexed by search engines, and any editorial link in it is a standard dofollow link. We do not remove published articles later unless there is a factual error or a legal reason.
Sponsored posts are labelled as sponsored where disclosure is required, and we ask that any commercial interest behind a guest post is declared when you pitch. Pricing for sponsored placements is available on request; tell us what you have in mind and we will reply with a quote. Typical turnaround from accepted draft to publication is three to five working days.
Guidelines
Our contributor guidelines are short. Please read them before you submit an article.
- Original work only. The article must not have been published anywhere else, and we do not accept spun or machine-rewritten copy.
- 800 words or more. Longer is fine where the project deserves it.
- One or two relevant links to sources, project pages or your own site are welcome, provided they help the reader.
- No gambling, adult or pharmaceutical content, and nothing unrelated to venues, construction, design or the events business.
- An author bio of two or three sentences is optional. Project photos are welcome with a credit and permission to publish.
- We edit for house style, accuracy and length. Substantive changes are shown to you before publication.
- Send drafts as plain text, Word or Google Docs with images attached separately.
How to pitch
Email the editor at [email protected] with the subject line "Guest post: [your topic]". A short pitch is enough to start: a working title, three or four sentences on the angle and who it helps, and whether you are proposing a guest post or a sponsored post. Finished drafts are welcome if you already have one. We answer every pitch, usually within two working days, and we will tell you plainly if a subject is not a fit so you can place it elsewhere.
Whether you want to write for us, submit an article you have already drafted, or discuss a sponsored post, the address is the same: [email protected].
